What exactly is an Ebook?
Ebooks are created with a special software program. They can
be
read on a a PC or Macintosh and/or printed out on paper.
This makes
Ebooks, reports, or any other information products interactive. Most
Ebooks contain links that can be clicked, and that lead to web sites
or downloadable files/programs/software.
Ebooks can be delivered
instantly and at no cost via a direct download
or as an attachment to an email message.
There are a few different Ebook formats,
but the most used are .PDF
files and .EXE files. .EXE files can not be read on a Mac, only on a
Windows based PC, with Internet Explorer
installed.
How do I download and read
an Ebook?
When you land on a thank-you or download page, you just click the
download link for the Ebook file. This will
launch a 'Save as...' dialog
box in your web browser. You only need to select a folder (directory)
on
your system to save the file in. Once the Ebook file is
downloaded,
go to the folder where you saved the Ebook and double-click the
icon to start reading your book.
Why is an Ebook packed in
a .ZIP file, and how do I open a
.ZIP file?
Ebooks can be resized (or compressed) with Winzip. This makes the
file smaller to download. If you download a .zip file, you'll need to
have a copy of WinZip
to open the file. You can download a free
version of WinZip here.
Once you've
downloaded the ZIP file, just double-click the icon to open
it. Select all the
files in the WinZip window, click 'Extract', and select a
folder on your system to extract
the file(s) to. Go to that folder and
double-click the icon to
open the file(s).
I downloaded an .EXE Ebook but I get an error message when
I try to open
it.
Note that .EXE formatted Ebooks
are compatible
with Windows 95, 98,
NT, ME, 2000 and XP -with Internet Explorer. If your PC doesn't have
Windows installed, then that's most
likely the cause of the problem.
If you do have Windows installed, but the .EXE
file still doesn't work, then
it may be because you have the Windows XP Service Pack 2 installed.
There's an easy way to solve this problem with the .EXE Ebook fix tool.
